Laser Vein Treatment in Brooklyn

When veins are prominent on the legs — whether they are fine spider veins or varicose veins — they can make you want to cover up. Fortunately, thanks to advanced laser technology, Juno Aesthetics offers services to reduce leg veins.

What is laser vein treatment?

Laser vein treatment can achieve spider vein removal and varicose vein reduction so that you’re confident to show your legs again. The procedure is done on the outside of the skin, and typically, multiple treatments are required.

How laser vein treatment works

The laser’s heat energy damages the vein, causing scar tissue to form. Once this happens, the scar tissue closes the vein, which results in the vein “dying” and disappearing months later. This happens because when a vein is closed, it no longer has a source of blood.

Laser vein treatment details

With laser vein treatment, patients typically do not require any anesthesia. We will provide you with protective eyewear before treatment. The laser’s energy pulses have been described as feeling like hot rubber bands being snapped on the skin or a small pin prick, which is very tolerable to the majority of patients. Some areas may be more sensitive than others, so please be sure to inform your specialist if you’re becoming uncomfortable.

The amount of time your treatment will take will be determined by the size of the area being treated. Multiple treatments are usually necessary, and are scheduled every 6 to 12 weeks. During your consultation with Dr. Giyaur, she will let you know how many sessions you’ll need.

Recovery

Downtime with laser vein treatment is very minimal. Most patients are able to instantly return to their normal day, although some will experience some bruising, swelling, and/or redness, which typically resolves within a week. You may also use cold (not frozen) packs for any discomfort. Be sure to avoid direct sun exposure, as your skin will be sensitive to it. We recommend using a high SPF sunblock and covering up the treated area when outdoors.

FAQ

Do I need to do anything to prepare for my laser vein treatment?

We recommend that you shave the area before treatment. This will help the heat energy to be absorbed by the vein instead of the pigment in your hair follicles.

What’s the difference between spider veins and varicose veins?

Spider veins are extremely close to the skin’s surface. They are small and threadlike. Varicose veins are larger and are also close to the surface of the skin. They are not delicate like spider veins — rather, they are often ropey and resemble grape clusters under the skin. Neither have any symptoms other than being unattractive.

Will the veins ever return?

This depends. Some individuals have a medical condition that creates the veins to develop. In these cases, patients should be optimally treated to reduce the amount of new veins that occur. Sun exposure can also cause new veins to appear, and you can avoid this by remembering to wear a strong sunblock and clothing to protect you from the sun. You may also want to consider wearing compression socks.
