There’s a big reason why laser hair removal is such a popular medical spa service. It saves time because you don’t need to constantly shave; it’s not extensively painful like waxing, and it can boost self-esteem if you have trouble with excessive body hair.
Laser hair removal is an alternative to shaving, waxing, and/or electrolysis. It’s a very popular service because of how convenient it is and its semi-permanent results. The treatment uses laser energy to damage the hair follicle so that it’s unable to grow hair anymore.
Laser hair removal works by using laser light energy. The energy is applied directly to the hair follicles, where the hair’s pigment absorbs it and turns it into heat. Once this happens, the hair follicles lose their ability to grow hair.

We recommend that you avoid sun exposure for three days before your laser hair removal treatment. We ask this so that you don’t experience pigmentation. For six weeks prior to your appointment, do not wax or tweeze any hairs in the areas where you will be receiving treatment. You will need to shave the area that you’re having treated the day before your appointment using a fresh new razor.
If you’re having laser hair removal done in an area that requires you to get undressed, be sure to wear comfortable, easy-to-remove clothing. Layers are always a good idea. We will give you protective eyewear and cleanse your skin. You may also be given a topical numbing cream.
The laser energy is administered using a hand-held device that focuses on each hair follicle in the area. Patients say that the laser “zaps” feel very tolerable — something like a tiny pin prick or a hot rubber band snapping on the skin. The amount of time your treatment takes will depend on the area(s) you’re having treated.
It’s important for those who have laser hair removal done to understand that every individual is different, and the amount of treatments needed will vary from person to person because everyone has different types of skin, hair, problem areas, and hair thickness.
Multiple laser hair removal treatments are necessary to achieve the desired results. This is because our hair grows in phases, and some of the follicles will be dormant when you come in for your first session. In order to target all of them, typically 4 to 6 treatments (scheduled 4 to 8 weeks apart) are required. With each of these treatments, there will be about a 10% to 15% reduction in hair growth.
A few days after your laser hair removal treatment, you will notice hair beginning to fall out. These hairs will grow back, but they’ll be much finer, and then they’ll fall out again. This process continues until the hairs don’t come back at all.
